Anthony Uliano:
I’m Anthony Uliano, the founder and CEO of AMC Technology. I started the company back in 1995.
Rosemary Branch:
I’m Rosemary Branch, currently Chief Revenue Officer. I’ve had several roles at AMC over my 27 years here.
Anthony:
When I started AMC, I was at IBM. Around that time, Y2K was becoming a big issue, and a lot of companies were implementing this new software called SAP. I decided to leave IBM and start my own consulting company. We focused on technical consulting at first, and my first project was actually at Altria—back then it was still called Philip Morris.
I was their lead technical consultant for SAP, and I noticed they were struggling with a problem in their contact center. The amount of time, resources, and people it took to implement a solution was huge—and the results weren’t great. That’s when I got the idea that’s guided me ever since: how do we make these things simpler for customers?
So, in my spare time, I built a prototype with a colleague. That prototype ended up being acquired by SAP. The goal was to make contact center integrations less expensive and more repeatable—and that became the foundation of AMC Technology.
We started as a consulting firm, but I quickly realized we could solve customer problems better as a software company, not just a services company.
Rosemary:
When I joined, it wasn’t chaotic at all for a small company. I was surprised by how much structure there was, considering the size. It’s been interesting to see the evolution—from consulting, to product, and now a strong balance of services and product again.
Anthony:
We built our first product to address two things: contact center projects at that time took six months to a year to implement, and we knew it shouldn’t take that long. Our first solution allowed companies to implement a contact center in about two weeks, with very little professional services needed.
When SAP acquired our first contact center solution, we retained ownership of the telephony and CTI components. That meant that every time SAP sold the solution, customers needed us to handle the telephony part.
It worked incredibly well—but we quickly became overwhelmed by the number of global customers. That’s when we realized we needed a platform that was repeatable—not just for customers, but for us as a company.
That thinking led to what AMC is today: a scalable, flexible, and repeatable contact center platform that’s still evolving after 30 years.
